The Bridgekeeper’s Toll
Your journey has been peaceful… until now.
As the sun begins to set, the forest trail opens to a narrow stone bridge suspended over a roaring canyon. Halfway across stands a bridgekeeper, wrapped in weathered robes and rusted armor peaking through. A black steel longsword clutched between their hands like a statue. Face shrouded in darkness under his hood.
As you approach… without motion, he says, “Only those worthy may pass.”
You glance over him along the bridge. It is the only way forward, unless you want to double back but that would add 4 days minimum to your journey.
The bridgekeeper tilts his head, “If thou would like to go forward, impress me or draw your weapon.”
You begin to search your pack…
