WEEKLY MISSION: Make Your Own Speedrun
Speedrunners have spent years figuring out how to beat games in record time. We’re lowering the standards considerably.
This week, forget beating the entire game. Your mission is to invent your own completely unofficial mini speedrun, set a time, and challenge the AMD Gaming community to beat it.
The objective can be impressive, ridiculous, or unnecessarily specific. As long as there’s a starting point, a finish line, and a clock, you’ve got yourself a speedrun category.
How to Participate
1. Create Your Category
Pick any game and invent a challenge that can be completed relatively quickly.
For example:
Racing: Complete a specific route using the worst car in your garage.
RPG: Start in town, buy a specific item, and return to the starting point.
Survival: Start empty-handed and see how quickly you can cook your first meal.
Sandbox: Gather the materials and build a tiny house as fast as possible.
Shooter: Clear a specific encounter from start to finish.
Cozy: See how quickly you can catch five different fish.
MMO: Race from one recognizable landmark to another without using fast travel.
Make up whatever challenge works for your game.
2. Set the Time
Attempt your challenge and record your best time.
Then post:
Game:
Category:
Rules:
Time to Beat:
A screenshot or clip of your attempt is encouraged if you can grab one.
3. Challenge the Community
Here’s where things get interesting. Anyone who owns the same game can attempt your category and reply with their time.
Someone beat you? Get back in there. You’ve got until the end of the week to reclaim your incredibly important world record!!
Check the Leaderboards
Don’t just post your own challenge. Browse the categories other members have invented.
Try one yourself, cheer on a ridiculous record, or attempt to shave a few seconds off somebody else’s time.
Bonus respect goes to anyone who discovers an absurd strategy that the original creator never considered.
Ground Rules
- Challenges should be reasonably repeatable by another player.
- Keep individual attempts short enough that others can realistically participate.
- No external cheats or mods that provide a competitive advantage.
- Multiple attempts are absolutely encouraged.
- Most importantly: don’t take the competition too seriously. These are fake world records. Bragging rights are extremely real.
