My "Fr0stCore" AM5 build is complete. My return to Team Red after 20+ years of Intel/Nvidia

My last full build was Christmas of 2018 before my wedding the following summer as I wasn’t sure when I would have “funds” again for another PC build. It was a solid i7 9700k rig complete with my faithful GOAT evga 1080ti hybrid FTW3 for over 6 years of great use.

However, I felt it was time to retire the 1080ti hybrid a few months ago due to concerns of the pump failing and I decided I no longer wanted to support Ngreedia after 20 years of using them, as well as ditching Asus and Intel that I’ve also been using the last 20+ years. I especially have not been happy with how terrible Asus support has been for customers from online postings as well as quality of their products, especially after my expensive Z390 ROG Hero motherboard broke over 2 years ago on the top PCI-E slot for reasons still unknown, so decided no more paying the ROG tax on new build and decided to give MSI a try for the first time.

It feels really good to be back on team red as my very first computer I ever built was a AMD Athlon Axia 1.33Ghz on a Socket A Abit-KT7A waaaaay back in spring of 2001. At that time I went all out and got the first of its kind, VisionTek GeForce 3 for it. Flash forward to 2004 and Values STEAM and Half Life 2 had launched and benchmarks on the web showed that ATIs GPUs ran it much better then the crap GeForce FX series which also ran hot and loud. So I ditched my Geforce got my first ATi Hercules 9800 Pro AGP, it was quite a change back then, but not as much as going from 20 years of geforce usage to AMD with this beautiful Powercolor Hellhound Spectral White 9070 XT!

It’s really nice having the CPU/motherboard/gpu driver and software all together. Adrenaline is super easy to use vs that horrid Geforce experience crap and the old nvidia control panel is just so out of date. Going from my i7 9700k to this 9800xd is a amazing difference, I cannot believe how much my 9700k was holding back this 9070xt in games! Cyberpunk went up nearly 50fps!

I don’t think I’ll ever use anything else other AMD products. It feels real good to be back Team Red after all this time and where it all started my PC building journey!

Wow! An actual AMD rep??? I’m honored! I cannot believe its been so long since my last AMD rig built back in 2002 and also my first watercooled PC that back then, you had to build yourself from a rather expensive kit. Spoiled kids these days have no idea how much more work PC build was back then lol. PC tech has come a long way since then

Honestly, I’ve been really enjoying playing the early 401 demo of Titanic: Honor & Glory at the highest settings with no dips below 60 FPS. My 1080ti really struggled during heavy lighting and reflections in certain areas of the ship, especially at grand stair case. The UE5 engine is really demanding and is still rather buggy considering the very early alpha stage of the project over the past 10 years, so sometimes only brute force hardware approach can make the demos run good until the game is fully released

Now I can see Titanic reborn in all her amazing glory with no framerate issues and can’t wait to get new 4K monitor during Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales to really see it!

Squeeee! Another AMD staff responded? I am not worthy!

I don’t spose you could maybe hook up an old AMD veteran up with some Team Red swag by chance? I still have my ATi Ruby poster from loooong ago and it could use an “upgrade” Pwease? :face_holding_back_tears:

Yea AMD staff is all over this site my friend. Unfortunately, when it comes to Ruby ATI swag that is long since gone. Keep an eye on stuff on the site though we may do some sweeps and stuff like Swag and stuff in the future.

But yea good work again, these are the amazing PC Configs and images we love to see.

Oh I know, I was looking to “upgrade” my ruby swag and I dunno about you, but I could really use a frosty new AMD badge for this build

Early Black Friday has been pretty good to me/bad for the wallet all things considered, so much so that I finally decided to retire my Dell 1440p monitor I got free back in 2015 from wining prize money for a case modding contest in a magazine and my own persnal Santa Clause got me my first ever 4K and high refresh rate to fully complete the full upgrade of “Fr0stCore”

Wow! I cannot believe the difference 120hertz makes even in World of Warships and wow, AMD FreeSync is so freaking nice! I’ve been playing games in the dark ages
