How far can you make it when failure actually matters?
This week, pick any game and attempt your own self-imposed Hardcore One-Life Challenge. Once you die… that’s it. The run is over.
How long do you think you will survive!? Five hours? Five minutes? Every game tells a different story when you only get one chance. One opportunity. Shoutout to my Hardcore WoW players!
How to Participate
Choose any game and attempt to play it as if you only have one life.
If you die… your run is over.
Whether you’re attempting a full Hardcore-style playthrough or simply seeing how far you can make it, every run becomes a story worth sharing.
Need inspiration? Here are a few ideas:
RPGs: Start a fresh character and see if you can complete the game, or make as much progress as possible, without dying. Think Hardcore World of Warcraft, Diablo, Skyrim, Fallout, or Elden Ring.
Shooters: Complete a campaign missions in a row, survive multiple extractions in a row and see how long you can last without a single death.
Racing Games: Finish a championship or series of races without restarting after a crash or major mistake.
Survival Games: See how many in-game days you can survive before meeting your inevitable end.
Roguelikes & Roguelites: How many runs can you go without dying? How deep can you make it?
Platformers & Action Games: Beat a level, world, or even the entire game without losing a life.
When your adventure comes to an end, come back and share:
- The game you chose
How far you made it
What finally ended your run
Share a screenshot of your triumph, or your final moments!
Celebrate the Near Misses
Read through everyone else’s attempts and cheer on the victories… or laugh with them over the spectacular failures.
Sometimes the funniest stories come from runs that lasted all of thirty seconds.
