Hi all, last year I purchased a gaming system from FENN Systems and am very happy with it. Sadly I only specced it with an RTX 5060 and I already know this was not very smart as it underperforms in combination with my 1440p monitor.
I’m already thinking about putting another GPU in there but prices have gone up so much that I feel like we’re being shit on by NVIDIA.
I might go for the RED team for the first time in my life but I’m having a bit of trouble picking a GPU. What is a good and respected brand for AMD GPU’s and what model is comparible to an RTX 5070 Ti ?
Thanks for reading my question!!
I use a Gigabyte GAMING OC RX 9070 XT, and I recommend it because it has a max power rating of 330 watts which is ~10% higher than the stock rating without doing any power tuning in the AMD Adrenalin app. The “OC” in that name is key, there is a non-OC GAMING model and I would not get that one. My card is also one of the smallest cards, if not the smallest at 288 millimeters long, and I have had it in my build for 14 months and have no GPU sag, even though I do not use a GPU brace in my build.
The only downside is that at full RPM, the triple fan setup is noticeably loud. I use headphones, so I don’t care about this, but if you use desktop speakers or the like, you might care. FYI, playing Doom: The Dark Ages with full path tracing and Ultra Nightmare settings at 2560X1440 with a typical average framerate of 95 FPS, and pulling a full 330 watts through the graphics card according to HWiNFO 64, the fans were only at 1330 RPM and were not at all loud. Full RPM is over 3000 RPM.
If I had a power supply greater than 750 watts, I would use power tuning to bring that up to say 350 watts and check stability. Alas, I got a $130 PSU for <$80 and didn’t have the scratch to spend more on the PSU at the time of purchase. I decided it would be better to go with a top-tier quality 750 watt model that worked extremely well with my case vs a lower tier model that was rated higher and didn’t have side mounted modular cables. After all, a lower tier PSU can fry your entire build if it goes bad.
