XFX RX 9070 XT random full shutdowns (fans full speed, no BSOD, BugcheckCode 0), anyone else?

Hey all,

Looking for anyone with a similar issue on the 9070 XT, since I’ve found several matching threads here already but no confirmed fix. Note: This issue pretty much ONLY happens while playing F1 25/26 (dlc) and no other game, even during heavy loads in different video games. Additionally, sometimes the game worked for days without any issues, but recently it got more frequent, to the point where it crashes after 10-20-30minutes.

Symptoms:

  • Random, total PC shutdown (screen, LEDs off) or full black screen while fans spin at full/max speed
  • No BSOD, no crash dialog, happens during light load, heavy load, and even idle in a game menu
  • Power button sometimes unresponsive, needs a full hold/hard reset
  • After reboot: Windows Hello PIN briefly breaks, forces password login

System:

  • GPU: XFX RX 9070 XT
  • CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • PSU: be quiet! Dark Power 13, 1000W
  • RAM: 32GB DDR5, EXPO 6000MHz (also tested with EXPO fully disabled - still happens)
  • Motherboard: ASUS (X870 PLUS WIFI)

What I’ve already ruled out:

  • RAM/EXPO instability (disabled EXPO entirely, still crashes)
  • Loose cables (fully reseated everything, no daisy-chained PCIe cables, all separate runs)
  • PSU output sag (HWiNFO logging shows +12V rock steady at 12.363V right up to the exact moment of every crash, no drift, no warning)
  • Thermal issue (CPU 65-76°C, GPU 55-72°C at time of crashes, nowhere near throttle limits)
  • Driver issue (updated GPU + chipset drivers, still happened after)

Event Viewer / crash data:

  • Kernel-Power Event 41, BugcheckCode 0 (most crashes - Windows never gets to log anything)
  • One crash did produce a minidump: Bugcheck 0xA0 (INTERNAL_POWER_ERROR)

Has anyone found an actual fix for this on the 9070 XT specifically? Seen some mentions of disabling Core Performance Boost helping on similar RDNA cards - has anyone tried that on the 9070 XT? Also curious if a dual-BIOS switch (if your card has one) made any difference for anyone.

I’m seeing very similar behavior with my system—sudden black screen, fans ramping to full speed, and no BSOD or useful BugCheck information. I’d be interested to know whether you’ve already tried a clean driver installation with DDU, checked the PCIe power cables, and tested with default BIOS and GPU settings. Since several RX 9070 XT owners seem to be reporting similar symptoms, it would be helpful if AMD could investigate whether there’s a driver or firmware issue involved. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}

I have had the the Kernel event 41. It seemed to be my psu extension cables. I have a corsair 850w psu and the asrock steel legend 9070xt. Since i took them off i havnt had a issue yet.

Best thing for you to do is get the AMD Cleaner and DDU get rid of the drivers by using them then reinstall them again and then turn off the windows auto update reason to turn off the auto update is because Microsoft is known to put out GPU drivers that they say are new when they actually are not and they create this issue
I found this out about 5 or 6 driver updates ago also if you turn off the zero rpm it ups to, if you are a person who does happen to overclock and you don’t under volt it tends throw out (overheat) the GPU which could also be the reason for it shutting down

This definitely sounds like either an overheating or power issue. Are you upping the power limit in the Adrenaline app?

If your GPU temp is getting to 72 degrees C, what are your hotspot temps? A 72-degree GPU temp could push hotspot temps above 95. You have HWINFO64, so I doubt you have missed this; I thought I’d mention it anyway, as I have a 330-watt stock TBP card and when experiencing a 65-degree GPU temp my hotspot can get to 85 or even briefly 88 according to HWINFO64 with the performance BIOS selected. If that wasn’t the case, I would have pushed the Total Board Power limit even further.

Could be caused by a lot things.

You should test every part of your system RAM, GPU, CPU etc.
But mostly if FAN spinning up while crash its a hardware defect or driver crash.

Try https://www.benchmate.org/ and test ur hardware, also let HWiNFO Log your PC stats to a .txt file so you can see what happened at the point
